Becos da memória: escrita e história a contrapelo

Abstract

Esta pesquisa estabelece um diálogo entre a filosofia de Walter Benjamin e a literatura de Conceição Evaristo, com foco no romance Becos da Memória (2006). A partir do conceito de escrevivência, investiga-se a relação entre experiência [Erfahrung] e escrita, compreendendo como a subjetividade coletiva fundamenta a forma literária e ressalta a dimensão humana na narrativa. Sob a ótica benjaminiana ? especialmente a partir de ensaios como O Contador de Histórias (1936) ?, articula-se a atividade do narrador à do historiador, conforme delineado nas teses Sobre o Conceito de História (1940). Propõe-se que Evaristo, ao narrar escrevivências, atua como uma historiadora trapeira: aquela que recolhe, entre as ruínas de uma comunidade em vias de desmantelamento, os fragmentos necessários para redimir o passado das mulheres negras frente à historiografia oficial brasileira. Através do método da montagem, a pesquisa demonstra que a inserção de traços da tradição oral no romance opera uma cesura no tempo linear, revelando a conexão indissociável entre literatura, história e linguagem.

Abstract: This research establishes a dialogue between Walter Benjamin's philosophy and Conceição Evaristo's literature, focusing on the novel Becos da Memória (2006). Based on the concept of escrevivência [life-writing/lived-experience writing], it investigates the relationship between experience [Erfahrung] and writing, understanding how collective subjectivity grounds the literary form and highlights the human dimension within the narrative. The analysis examines the work's formal structure, focusing on the author's aesthetic choices that tension the boundaries between the high literary standard and orality. From a Benjaminian perspective, the activity of the narrator is articulated with that of the historian, as outlined in the theses On the Concept of History (1940). It is proposed that Evaristo, by narrating escrevivências, acts as a ragpicker-historian: one who gathers, among the ruins of a community on the brink of dismantling, the fragments necessary to redeem the past of Black women against the official Brazilian historiography. Through the method of montage, the research demonstrates that the insertion of oral tradition traits into the novel operates as a caesura in linear time, revealing the indissoluble connection between literature, history, and language.
