A desesperança nas personagens de Caio Fernando Abreu: um estudo do sujeito urbano pós-ditadura

Abstract

Este Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso pretende traçar uma linha interpretativa que relaciona o sentimento de desesperança presente nas personagens de Caio Fernando Abreu à experiência urbana como reflexo do período pós-ditatorial no Brasil. Pretende-se, assim, investigar em que medida o contexto histórico e diatópico das narrativas literárias se associa ao abalo psicológico observado nessas personagens, vítimas de uma violência indireta e velada, em que não se fazem necessárias a presença ou a atuação de um agressor específico, mas que se pauta na sujeição ao inóspito e ao hostil. Para tal, serão analisados dois contos selecionados da obra Morangos Mofados, publicada por Caio Fernando Abreu em 1982, à luz das concepções teóricas de Idelber Avelar (2003), que propõe a alegoria como forma estética substituinte do paradigma totalizante e expositora da fragmentação histórica, e de Walter Benjamin (2015), que discorre sobre o declínio da figura flauneriana diante do esvaziamento da experiência citadina na modernidade tardia e da fragmentação do sujeito que dele decorre. Objetiva-se estudar tais características a partir de uma análise da função do narrador e dos elementos estilísticos apresentados nos textos escolhidos, que têm como tema a abjeção, a marginalidade, o rejeito, o baixo e o sujo.

This undergraduate thesis aims to outline an interpretative framework that connects the feeling of hopelessness present in Caio Fernando Abreu’s characters to the urban experience as a reflection of the post-dictatorial period in Brazil. It seeks to investigate to what extent the historical and diatopic context of these literary narratives is linked to the psychological distress observed in the characters, victims of an indirect and veiled form of violence in which neither the presence nor the actions of a specific aggressor are necessary, but which is instead grounded in subjection to the inhospitable and the hostile. To this end, two selected short stories from Morangos Mofados (1982) by Caio Fernando Abreu will be analyzed in light of Idelber Avelar’s (2003) theoretical concepts, who proposes allegory as an aesthetic form that replaces the totalizing paradigm and exposes historical fragmentation, and Walter Benjamin’s (2015) reflections on the decline of the flâneur figure in face of the emptiness of urban experience in late modernity and the resulting fragmentation of the subject. The study aims to examine these characteristics through an analysis of the narrator’s function and the stylistic elements found in the selected texts, which revolve around themes of abjection, marginality, the rejected, the low and the filthy.
