Arte e reparação do traumático: criações e memórias de imigrantes congoleses

Abstract

A tese investiga as relações entre a arte e possibilidades de reparação do traumático. Apoiando-me no método e na ética da psicanálise, em diálogo com princípios metodológicos da etnopsicanálise, bem como com teorias decoloniais, estudos de cultura, migração e memória, realizo entrevistas com artistas imigrantes da República Democrática do Congo e da República do Congo. As entrevistas ocorreram no Brasil (São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro) e no Canadá (Québec e Montréal). Ao todo foram sete participantes. De modo articulado à análise e discussão do material das entrevistas, as obras dos entrevistados foram colocadas em análise. A análise das obras parte do pressuposto de que a criação artística porta enunciados e reflexões que ultrapassam os ditos e intenções dos seus criadores, lançando questões e inquietações no laço social. Além disso, visitas a museus em Paris e Tervuren, foram feitas com o intuito de desenvolver um tópico da pesquisa sobre reparação e restituição de obras congolesas. Em linhas gerais, reflito sobre como a arte (o fazer artístico e o contato com obras de arte) pode contribuir para a elaboração de traumas referentes ao processo migratório, bem como para a reparação de traumas históricos e coletivos aos quais a população congolesa foi submetida durante o período (neo)colonial. Discuto de quais maneiras a arte, enquanto produtora de encontros interculturais e criadora de memórias, atua na integração cultural de imigrantes, ressituando-os desde uma outra posição frente às vivências potencialmente traumáticas do passado (vivência migratória e vivência coletiva das violências reproduzidas a partir da colonização), abrindo caminhos para o relançamento do desejo face aos desafios do período pós-migratório. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam que a criação artística foi relevante em diversos processos de integração dos imigrantes, possibilitando-os narrar aspectos fundamentais de suas histórias, obter o testemunho necessário para validar suas experiências, e transmitir elementos de sua cultura, enquanto se adaptavam e integravam àqueles da sociedade de acolhimento. No que tange à criação de memórias, de modo geral, os entrevistados apresentaram um entendimento de que suas criações compõem uma teia simbólica e histórica que os ultrapassa. No âmago desta compreensão, eles trazem a ideia de que tantos seus traumas, quanto os recursos imagéticos e linguísticos fundamentais para a reparação destes, vão além de suas vivências, portando dimensões intergeracionais que remetem ao período colonial. Neste sentido, medidas de reparação histórica como a restituição de obras congolesas ao Congo emergem como alternativas para a reparação de traumas históricos do povo congolês.

Abstract: This thesis investigates the relationship between art and the possibilities of repairing the traumatic. Drawing on the method and ethics of psychoanalysis, in dialog with the methodological principles of ethnopsychoanalysis, as well as decolonial theories, culture, migration and memory studies, I conducted interviews with immigrant artists from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo. The interviews took place in Brazil (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro) and Canada (Québec and Montréal). There were a total of seven participants. In conjunction with the analysis and discussion of the interview material, the works of the interviewees were analyzed. The analysis of the works is based on the assumption that artistic creation carries statements and reflections that go beyond the sayings and intentions of its creators, raising questions and concerns in the social bond. In addition, visits to museums in Paris and Tervuren were made in order to develop a research topic on reparation and restitution of Congolese works. In general terms, I reflect on how art (artistic making and contact with works of art) can contribute to the elaboration of traumas related to the migration process, as well as to the reparation of historical and collective traumas to which the Congolese population was subjected during the (neo)colonial period. I discuss the ways in which art, as a producer of intercultural encounters and a creator of memories, acts in the cultural integration of immigrants, resituating them from another position in the face of the potentially traumatic experiences of the past (migratory experience and collective experience of the violence reproduced from colonization), opening up ways to relaunch desire in the face of the challenges of the post-migration period. The results of the research show that artistic creation was relevant in various processes of immigrant integration, enabling them to narrate fundamental aspects of their stories, obtain the necessary testimony to validate their experiences, and transmit elements of their culture, while adapting and integrating with those of the host society. With regard to the creation of memories, the interviewees generally understood that their creations make up a symbolic and historical web that goes beyond them. At the heart of this understanding is the idea that their traumas, as well as the imagery and linguistic resources that are fundamental to repairing them, go beyond their own experiences and have intergenerational dimensions that go back to the colonial period. In this sense, historical reparation measures such as the return of Congolese works to Congo emerge as alternatives for repairing the historical traumas of the Congolese people.
