Philippe Garrel: o sentimento fantasma

Abstract

Esta dissertação aborda o trabalho do cineasta Philippe Garrel, tentando pensar seus filmes e as relações entre eles enquanto um conjunto e, assim, reconhecendo neles elementos que se repetem intensamente e delineiam um desejo de repetição. Esse desejo resulta das tentativas de se tratar sobre um sentimento de difícil definição, como um abismo que assombra, tal qual um fantasma, o cineasta, seus personagens e as pessoas de sua vida, que perpassa e conduz os filmes e os temas que neles se repetem. Durante o percurso de análise são apresentadas diferentes maneiras com as quais os fantasmas se fazem presentes nas imagens e na narratividade do conjunto de filmes de Garrel; modos como os temas encenados se misturam e remetem uns ao outros, formando séries; métodos de trabalho particulares e contextos de vida do diretor, como sos da contracultura e de maio de 1968, que têm impacto relevante nos filmes.

Abstract: This essay is about the work of filmmaker Philippe Garrel, considering his films and the relations between them as an ensemble, so to recognise in them elements which repeat themselves intensely and outline a repetition desire. This desire results from the attempts to deal with and expose a sentiment of difficult definition, a feeling of abyss that haunts, like a ghost, the filmmaker, his characters, and the people important to his life, a feeling that also permeates and leads the films and the subjects which repeats themselves in them. The analysis developed presents different manners in which ghosts make themselves present in the images and narrativity of Garrel?s film ensemble; some of the ways with which the subjects and themes are performed and combined, each one often referring or leading to another, in a serial form; part of the director?s particular work methods and life contexts, such as that of the counterculture and may of 1968, which had significant impact on the films.
