Abstract

The use of solid waste from agroforestry activities, specifically ‘Produtos Florestais Não Madeireiros’ (PFNMs), has proved to be advantageous for industrial production with the gain of being renewable resources and for enabling the adoption of complementary income to the communities that constitute their extractive chains . This paper presents the experimental study that verified the granulometric and compression molding characteristics of particulate composites with the ‘escamas estéreis’ of Araucaria pine (Araucaria angustifolia), obtained by extracting the main PFNM of the species, the pinion. The results demonstrated the feasibility of the molding of the material with satisfactory conditions of reproduction of the shape, thin thicknesses and demoulding, presenting itself as a valuable material for product design and a viable alternative for the waste in the management of the tree as a fruit tree.
