DESTINAÇÃO DE RESÍDUOS SÓLIDOS EM CANAÃ DOS CARAJÁS: IMPACTOS SÓCIO-ECONÔMICOS E AMBIENTAIS IMPULSIONADOS PELA COOPERATIVA COOLETTAR

Abstract

Como em todo processo de urbanização, grandes empreendimentos propulsores de comércio, emprego e renda impulsionam o fluxo de pessoas e o desenvolvimento urbano de uma cidade. Nessa conjuntura, é possível afirmar que a cidade de Canaã dos Carajás sofre um processo de crescimento e desenvolvimento econômico pela influência do setor de mineração amplamente explorado na região. O objetivo desta pesquisa é correlacionar o alto índice de crescimento populacional com a crescente massa de resíduos sólidos produzidos, abordando o papel modificador de cooperativas na destinação desses resíduos e como influenciam questões sociais, ambientais e econômicas no processo de gerenciamento. Para isso, foram coletados dados e indicadores do Sistema Nacional de Informações Sobre Saneamento (SNIS), correlacionando-os a indicadores obtidos através da cooperativa de catadores de matérias recicláveis (COOLETTAR), em que foi comprovada a significativa influência da cooperativa na geração de renda da cidade, na interação cidadão/comunidade, assim como condições ambientais da cidade.

As in any urbanization process, large projects that drive commerce, employment and income drive the flow of people and urban development in a city. In this context, it is possible to affirm that the city of Canaã dos Carajás is undergoing a process of economic growth and development due to the influence of the mining sector widely exploited in the region. The objective of this research is to correlate the population growth rate with the growing mass of solid waste produced, approaching the modifying role of cooperatives in the destination of these wastes and how they influence social, environmental and economic issues in the process. For this, data were collected from the National Sanitation Information System (SNIS), correlating them to indicators obtained through the cooperative of recyclable material collectors (COOLETTAR), in which the significant influence of the cooperative in the generation of income in the city was confirmed, in the citizen/community interaction, as well as in the environmental conditions of the city
