Polyurethane (PU) boards are widely used as thermal and acoustic insulation, due to their excellent
performance. However, incidents involving polymeric materials in civil construction are still
common, highlighting the urgency of studies in this area, as well as the need to find ends for
industrial waste. The aim of this study was to prepare composites by the polycondensation reaction of polypropylene glycol and toluene 2,6-diisocyanate (2,4-TDI / 2,6-TDI, 80/20) and cement, with
the incorporation of cut glass residue and sand, in order to investigate the behavior of mechanical
resistance in relation to time, the apparent density of the specimens and the influence of air and
water healing. The 35-day mechanical compressive strength test had the best result for the Pu_Cim
specimen, however it was found a 39.93% reduction in its resistance in the 90-day test, being
exceeded by the Pu_Cim_Areia and Pu_Cim_Vidro specimens, which unlike Pu_Cim , had a
significant increase in their resistance of 10.33 and 77.69%, respectively. It was also observed that
the healing period in water is essential for increasing the strength of the Pu_Cim specimen and that
the specimen with glass residue is the least dense among the three. The bottom line is the
Pu_Cim_Vidro specimen showed better mechanical properties, taking advantage of the benefits of
replacing part of the cement with glass waste which is ecologically and economically viable. |
