A construção da feminilidade na Eneida de Virgílio

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo analisar as principais personagens femininas da Eneida, de Virgílio, conferindo em que medida seus perfis assemelham-se ou afastam-se do padrão de feminilidade da época e o que acontece com aquelas que o subvertem. De início, considera-se o contexto histórico no qual se deu a produção da obra e qual era o protótipo de feminilidade vigente. Em seguida, com base no aporte teórico selecionado, as personagens são examinadas individualmente a partir de quatro critérios fundamentais que buscam traçar o perfil comportamental de cada uma delas. Chega-se então a dois grupos que separam as personagens entre as idealmente femininas e as subversivas, restando apenas um nome que não pode ser enquadrado nessas categorias. Conclui-se, dessa forma, que parece haver de fato um sistema punitivo, que se cumpre essencialmente através de destinos malfadados, para as mulheres que recusam seu papel de passividade ou invadem áreas de domínio tipicamente masculino.

The present work aims to analyze the main female characters of the Aeneid, by Vergil, by checking the extent of which their profiles resemble or depart from the femininity standard of the time and examining what happens to those who subvert it. At first, the historical context in which the work was produced, and which was the current prototype of femininity are taken into account. Then, based on the selected theoretical contribution, the characters are examined individually from four fundamental criteria that seek to trace the behavioral profile of each one of them. Emerging from this are two groups that separate the characters between the ideally feminine and the subversive ones, with only one name remaining that cannot be classified in these categories. It is concluded, in this way, that there seems to be a punitive system, which is essentially fulfilled through ill-fated destinations, for women who refuse their passive role or invade areas typically associated with male dominance.
