Imigração e saúde mental: narrativas de estudantes latino-americanos em uma universidade intercultural

Abstract

A imigração é um fenômeno complexo, multifacetado, historicamente comum desde os primórdios da humanidade e, diversas são as motivações para que um sujeito se desloque do seu ambiente cultural. No cenário educacional contemporâneo, marcado pela globalização e pela valorização da formação acadêmica, temos o fenômeno dos imigrantes que saem dos seus países em busca de melhores oportunidades educacionais e também aqueles que, após terem migrado, encontram no ensino superior uma forma de reestruturação de seu projeto de vida. Dentre as universidades brasileiras, encontra-se a Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana UNILA, localizada na tríplice fronteira Brasil-Paraguai-Argentina em Foz do Iguaçu-PR, cujo projeto é voltado para integração educacional e cultural entre os povos da América Latina. Para a efetivação de tal projeto, a universidade reserva 50% de suas vagas de graduação para estudantes estrangeiros, o que gera um ambiente fortemente marcado pela interculturalidade. Todavia, ao se deslocarem de seus lugares de pertença, estes imigrantes terão que lidar com a distância dos referenciais culturais e sociais que norteavam o seu dia-a-dia até então e com a diferença cultural e educacional do novo contexto, podendo assim gerar um estado de vulnerabilidade psíquica e sofrimento. Deste modo, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo compreender quais os impactos da imigração na saúde mental dos imigrantes universitários de graduação da UNILA. Seguiu-se o viés epistemológico da investigação qualitativa, de caráter descritivo, exploratório e transversal. Para tal, foi realizada uma pesquisa documental junto à Seção de Psicologia da universidade e uma pesquisa de campo onde foram entrevistados 18 imigrantes de 07 nacionalidades. Na coleta de dados da pesquisa de campo, utilizou-se formulário sociodemográfico intercultural e entrevista semi-estruturada. Os dados da análise documental foram analisados via estatística frequencial, e as entrevistas, via técnica de análise de conteúdo. Dentre os resultados, a análise documental demonstrou que a distância cultural influenciava no fluxo das nacionalidades no serviço de psicologia, assim como a identificação das principais demandas. Por sua vez, a pesquisa de campo identificou fatores de risco pré e pós-migratórios à saúde mental dos imigrantes, sintomas psíquicos pós-migração e fatores de proteção pré e pós-migratórios. Em termos de conclusão, a pesquisa constatou a recorrência de um impacto migratório negativo à saúde mental dos imigrantes universitários, cujos efeitos eram acentuados ou minimizados decorrentes a relação entre os fatores de risco e de proteção disponíveis. Os resultados também apontaram mudanças positivas em torno do respeito às diferenças, ganho de autonomia, maior conhecimento intercultural e de si.

Abstract : Immigration is a complex phenomenon, multi-faceted, historically common since the beginning of mankind, and several are the motivations for one to move from its cultural environment. In the contemporary educational scenario, marked by globalization and the valorization of academic education, there is the phenomenon of immigrants who leave their countries to find better educational opportunities and also those who after having migrated find in higher education a way of restructuring their project of life. Among the Brazilian universities, there is the Federal University of Latin American Integration - UNILA, located on the border between Brazil-Paraguay-Argentina in Foz do Iguaçu-PR, whose project is focused on educational and cultural integration among the people of Latin America, and secure 50% of their graduation vacancies for foreign students, generating an environment marked by interculturality. However, when they move from their places of residence, these immigrants will have to deal with the distance from the cultural and social references that guided their daily life up to then, and with the cultural and educational difference of the new context, which may provoque a state of psychic vulnerability and suffering. Thus, this research aimed to understand the impact of immigration on the mental health of university undergraduate immigrants UNILA. The epistemological bias followed was the qualitative research, with a descriptive, exploratory and transversal character. For that, a documentary research was carried out within the Psychology Section of the university and a field research in which 18 immigrants of 07 nationalities were interviewed. In the data collection of the field research, were used an intercultural sociodemographic form and a semi-structured interview. The data of the documentary analysis were analyzed through frequency statistics, and the interviews, through the technique of content analysis. Among the results, the documentary analysis showed that the cultural distance influenced the flow of nationalities in the psychology service, as well as the identification of the main demands. On the other hand, the field research identified pre- and post-migratory risk factors for immigrants' mental health, post-migration psychic symptoms, and pre- and post-migratory protection factors.In conclusion, the research found a recurrence of negative migratory impact on the mental health of university immigrants, whose effects were accentuated or minimized due to the relationship between the availability of risk and protective factors. The results also pointed to positive changes regarding respect for differences, gain of autonomy, greater intercultural and self knowledge.
