<description>Schopenhauer's great and small ethics: On the mysteriousness, (im)mediacy, and (un)sociability action
Debona, Vilmar
Schopenhauer bases morality on the concept of compassion, which he assumes to be the "great mystery of ethics". He sees it and as a spontaneous action that can neither be taught or planned. However, some elements of his theory of human action allow us to conceive of an ethical-moral action (the compassionate act) as something less mysterious or immediate, rather a mediated and planned action in its social or sociability dimension, or even as one which is suggested. In&#13;
this paper I propose what may be called a "valorization of the empirical apparatus" of Schopenhauerian thinking on human action (vfs-a-vis the metaphysical apparatus) by distinguishing between what I call great ethics and small ethics, a differentiation that I believe can be inferred from some of the philosopher's elaborations

<title>Pragmatic Pessimism or on The 'Dark Gray' of the World</title>

<description>Pragmatic Pessimism or on The 'Dark Gray' of the World
Debona, Vilmar
How can a theory of happiness, based upon the practical use of reason and acquired character, be understood in the thought of Schopenhauer, the great pessimist metaphysic? This article aims to prove that Schopenhauer’s pessimism can be better understood if considered, on the one hand, as metaphysical pessimism and, on the other, as pragmatic pessimism. For this purpose, I seek to show that the consideration of Schopenhauer’s singular eudemonology is fundamental to fully understand his pessimism.

<description>Milagres e Leis da Natureza em Peirce e Hume
Albieri, Sara
This artide aims at arguing that Peirce's criticism towards Hume's argument on mirac1es, rather than pinpointing the antagonism, shows the compatibility of their conceptions of Laws of Nature.
