O Fim está próximo: poder, tensão e nostalgia na visão da Guerra Fria a partir de Watchmen

Abstract

A presente dissertação procura estabelecer uma relação da História em Quadrinhos Watchmen, escrita por Alan Moore e desenhada por Dave Gibbons, com o contexto na qual ela foi produzida, mais precisamente os anos 1980 e a Guerra Fria. Primeiramente é realizada uma abordagem geral dos temas-base nos quais a pesquisa irá se apoiar, como os conceitos de História em Quadrinhos, a Guerra Fria e seus reflexos na produção cultural da época. Em seguida, são abordados os elementos da linguagem dos quadrinhos, inserindo-os no contexto da Indústria Cultural. Finalmente, parte-se para a análise da obra e suas relações com o contexto, primeiramente com foco nas narrativas de poder presentes em Watchmen e suas relações com a Guerra Fria, como a superioridade estadunidense, o neoliberalismo e os conflitos entre EUA e URSS, e depois, focando no sentimento e no imaginário de época, indo da corrida armamentista até o medo e tensão provocados pela possibilidade de um holocausto nuclear.

The present thesis tries to establish a relation of the comic book Watchmen, written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons, with the context in which it was produced, more precisely the 1980 years and the Cold War. Firstly there is carried out a general approach of the subjects-bases in which the inquiry will be going to support, like the concepts of Comic Books, the Cold War and his reflexes in the cultural production of the time. Next, broach some elements of the language of the comics, trying to insert in the context of the Cultural Industry. Finally, it goes to the analysis of the work and his relations with the context, firstly with focus in the narratives of power in Watchmen and his relations with the Cold War, like the North American superiority, the neoliberalism and the conflicts between USA and USSR, and then, focusing the feeling and in the imaginary of time, going of the arms race up to the fear and tension provoked by the possibility of a nuclear holocaust.
