A Construção da identidade étnica teuto-brasileira em São Lourenço do Sul (década de 1980 até os dias atuais)

Abstract

Esta tese analisa o processo de construção da identidade étnica teutobrasileira na cidade de São Lourenço do Sul (RS) entre a década de 1980 e os dias atuais através de histórias de vida. Para essa compreensão, a pesquisa investiga as representações e os sentidos atribuídos pelos depoentes a "ser teuto-brasileiro" em São Lourenço do Sul no que diz respeito a aspectos culturais e sociais objetivos e a elementos subjetivos. A análise da pesquisa utiliza o apoio teórico no eixo etnicidade relacional estudos sobre identidade étnico-cultural e a metodologia de História Oral. Os sujeitos entrevistados demonstram identificações na igualdade e na diferença, isto é, marcadores de pertença étnica, de um lado, vivenciados individualmente e, de outro lado, compartilhados no coletivo étnico. A definição atual da etnicidade teuto-brasileira em São Lourenço do Sul está relacionada a apropriações simbólicas convencionais e à produção de sentidos que cada depoente vivenciou na família e na comunidade étnica, o que caracteriza permanência e transformação da identidade étnica teuto-brasileira e uma negociação de sentidos individuais e coletivos. A redefinição do conjunto de identificadores étnicos teuto-brasileiros em São Lourenço do Sul está associada ainda, de um lado, ao próprio grupo étnico, ou seja, a auto-compreensão de sua identidade étnica e, de outro lado, à mercantilização da identidade, ou seja, a um apelo político-econômico pelo poder público.

This study analyzes the process of building a Teutonic-Brazilian ethnic identity in São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul state, from the 1980s to the present day by means of life stories. In this context, this study investigates the representations and senses attributed by the interviewees to what they mean by "being Teutonic-Brazilian" in São Lourenço do Sul concerning objective cultural and social aspects as well as subjective elements. The analysis is based on the theoretical and methodological framework provided by relational ethnicity, ethnocultura identity and oral history. The interviewees show identification on equality and difference; that is, markers of ethnicity, on the one hand, lived individually, and, on the other hand, markers shared in a collective ethnic identity. The current definition of Teutonic-Brazilian ethnicity in São Lourenço do Sul is related to conventional symbolic appropriations and the production of meanings that each interviewee experienced in family and ethnic communities. This characterizes the permanence and transformation of an ethnic Teutonic-Brazilian identity and the negotiation of individual and collective senses. The redefinition of the set of ethnic Teutonic- Brazilian identifiers in São Lourenço do Sul is still associated, on one hand, with the ethnic group itself (i.e. the self-understanding of their ethnic identity), and, on the other hand, with the commodification of identity (i.e. a political and economic appeal by the public authorities).
