Schopenhauer e as contradições do altruísmo

Abstract

A pesquisa analisa as contradições do altruísmo na filosofia de Arthur Schopenhauer. Parte-se da seguinte tensão originária no sistema schopenhaueriano: a Vontade como essência una e egoísta, manifestando-se nos fenômenos pela individuação, parece excluir a ação desinteressada a altruísta; e, ao mesmo tempo, a existência empírica de gestos compassivos (justiça, caridade) que apontam para uma ruptura na dinâmica de autoafirmação dessa Vontade. O objetivo é determinar se tais atos altruístas configuram (i) contradições formais na teoria, (ii) reflexos de contradições ontológicas da própria Vontade, ou (iii) paradoxos capazes de ampliar a compreensão dos limites da lógica aplicada ao em-si. Metodologicamente, a pesquisa é bibliográfica, baseada nas obras de Schopenhauer, mas recorrendo também ao comentário de especialistas. A investigação organiza-se em três capítulos: primeiro uma reconstrução ético-metafísica do altruísmo; em segundo lugar um exame do lugar da ?contradição? em sentido estrito na filosofia de Schopenhauer; e em terceiro capítulo um exame das diferentes atitudes interpretativas diante da suposta contraditoriedade do altruísmo, à luz da tipologia proposta por Lemanski e Schubbe, seguida de uma análise própria do tema. A tese defendida é a de que o altruísmo, longe de constituir um mero erro teórico ou uma incoerência a ser eliminada, funciona como uma fissura hermenêutica produtiva, uma contradição constitutiva que, no plano ético, expressa o caráter intrinsecamente conflitivo da Vontade em sua objetivação e ilumina, por conseguinte, os limites do conhecimento humano, a natureza da liberdade e o sentido último da moralidade.

Abstract: This research analyzes the contradictions of altruism in the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer. It begins from the following original tension within the Schopenhauerian system: the Will as a unitary and egoistic essence, manifesting itself in phenomena through individuation, seems to exclude disinterested and altruistic action; and, at the same time, the empirical existence of compassionate gestures (justice, charity) points to a rupture in the dynamic of self-affirmation of this Will. The objective is to determine whether such altruistic acts constitute (i) formal contradictions in the theory, (ii) reflections of ontological contradictions of the Will itself, or (iii) paradoxes capable of expanding the understanding of the limits of logic applied to the thing-in-itself. Methodologically, the research is bibliographic, based on Schopenhauer's works, but also drawing on expert commentary. The investigation is organized into three chapters: first, an ethical-metaphysical reconstruction of altruism; secondly, an examination of the place of \"contradiction\" in the strict sense in Schopenhauer's philosophy; and in the third chapter, an examination of the different interpretative attitudes towards the supposed contradictionness of altruism, in light of the typology proposed by Lemanski and Schubbe, followed by an original analysis of the theme. The thesis defended is that altruism, far from constituting a mere theoretical error or an inconsistency to be eliminated, functions as a productive hermeneutical fissure, a constitutive contradiction that, on the ethical plane, expresses the intrinsically conflictual character of the Will in its objectification and illuminates, consequently, the limits of human knowledge, the nature of freedom, and the ultimate meaning of morality.
