diretamente a dirigibilidade e o contato pneu-solo.

Since 1956, karting has been a motorsport discipline ranging from enthusiasts to serving as
an entry-level category for young drivers. The chassis is the main structural component of the
vehicle, playing a fundamental role in its performance. The study of static torsional stiffness
becomes essential as this parameter directly influences handling and tire-to-ground contact.
In this context, this monograph performs the numerical determination of the static torsional
stiffness of a tubular kart chassis, by means of the finite element method, using a beam-
element model developed in ANSYS® software. Through the application of a torsional load
under two loading directions, the torsional stiffness was determined, the stress state and the
safety factor of the structure were evaluated, and the results were compared with the values
reported in the literature for tubular competition structures. The results indicate a torsional
stiffness of 316.9 Nm/degree, a value that exceeds the minimum recommended in the
literature for kart frames and lies within the broad range reported for this type of structure.
The stress evaluation revealed a peak stress of 190.2 MPa, below half of the yield strength
adopted for the material (460 MPa), corresponding to a safety factor of approximately 2.42
and confirming that the structure operates entirely within the elastic regime, validating the
assumed linear behavior. An asymmetry of approximately 2.7% was also observed in the
structural response between the sides of the frame, arising from its geometry. Taken together,
these results demonstrate the applicability of the finite element method with beam elements
for this type of analysis. |
