Mulheres Illustres do Brazil: para além de nomes próprios

Abstract

Escrever, publicar e ser lida para uma mulher nunca foi uma tarefa fácil, ainda mais no Brasil do século XIX. Foi exatamente nesse período que muitas senhoras começaram a escrever e circular seus textos, enfrentando diversas barreiras sociais, políticas e culturais. Nossa historiografia literária contribuiu para o apagamento das obras dessas mulheres produzidas nesse período, corroborando com a ideia de que não existiam escritoras antes do século XX. Minha pesquisa nasceu do meu contato com a Antologia das Escritoras do Século XIX (1999), organizada por Zahidé Lupinacci Muzart, que busca resgatar seus nomes e o protagonismo na composição de nossa literatura. Meu principal objetivo é compreender o contexto de produção literária feminina oitocentista e evidenciar as principais contribuições de Ignez Sabino para a historiografia literária por meio da obra Mulheres Illustres do Brazil (1899). A obra não é apenas um compilado de biografias de mulheres que contribuíram para a construção do país, mas a transgressão possível de ser feita por meio do discurso historiográfico vigente. Minha pesquisa utiliza fontes primárias, como periódicos e documentos complementares, como uma foto da filha de Ignez Sabino, a transcrição e digitalização do primeiro livreto lançado pela autora, para reconstruir parte do panorama literário do século XIX. Assim, este estudo busca contribuir para o reconhecimento de Ignez Sabino enquanto peça fundamental da história das mulheres brasileiras, além da subversão da historiografia literária oficial nacional

Abstract: Writing, publishing, and being read has never been an easy task for women, especially in 19th-century Brazil. It was precisely during this period that many women began to write and circulate their texts, facing numerous social, political, and cultural barriers. Our literary historiography contributed to the erasure of these women's works produced at that time, reinforcing the idea that there were no women writers before the 20th century. My research was born from my encounter with Antologia das Escritoras do Século XIX (1999), organized by Zahidé Lupinacci Muzart, which seeks to recover their names and highlight their role in shaping our literature. My main objective is to understand the context of 19th-century women's literary production and to highlight the key contributions of Ignez Sabino to literary historiography through her work Mulheres Illustres do Brazil (1899). This work is not just a collection of biographies of women who contributed to the nation's development but also a form of transgression against the prevailing historiographical discourse. My research relies on primary sources, such as periodicals, and complementary documents, including a photograph of Ignez Sabino?s daughter, the transcription, and digitization of the first booklet published by the author, to reconstruct part of the 19th-century literary landscape. Thus, this study aims to contribute to the recognition of Ignez Sabino as a fundamental figure in the history of Brazilian women while challenging the official national literary historiography.
