Fluorescência na odontologia estética: importância nos dentes naturais e nos materiais restauradores

Abstract

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar, mediante revisão de literatura, a importância da fluorescência na Odontologia Estética com relação a sua influência nos dentes naturais e nos materiais restauradores. A fluorescência é uma manifestação luminosa, em que moléculas são excitadas pela absorção de radiação eletromagnética e emitem luz em resposta. Na dentição natural a fluorescência manifesta-se quando os dentes absorvem energia luminosa no espectro invisível como, por exemplo, luz ultravioleta e espontaneamente são capazes de emitir luz num comprimento de onda visível com coloração branco-azulada. Tanto esmalte quanto dentina são fluorescentes, porém o principal componente fluorescente dos dentes naturais é a dentina, que devido ao seu maior conteúdo orgânico é 3 vezes mais fluorescente que o esmalte. Há uma notável diferença entre a fluorescência apresentada pelos dentes naturais e a dos materiais restauradores existentes no mercado. Atualmente a fluorescência é uma propriedade considerada indispensável para a quase totalidade dos materiais restauradores quando se deseja a obtenção de restaurações verdadeiramente estéticas que simulem as características policromáticas e a vitalidade, ambas encontradas nos dentes naturais.

The aim of this study was to evaluate through a literature review the relevance of fluorescence in Esthetic Dentistry on natural teeth and restorative materials. The fluorescence is light phenomenon where the molecules are excited by the absorption of eletromagnetic radiation and emit light as a response. In the natural dentition, the fluorescence appears when the teeth absorb light energy within the visible spectrum, such as ultraviolet light, and emit light with a white-bluish wavelength in a spontaneous way. In spite enamel and dentin are fluorescent, nearly all the fluorescence of the natural teeth comes from dentin because its organic content is three times more fluorescent than enamel. There is a noticeable difference between the opalescence presented by the natural. teeth and the restorative materials. For this reason, the fluorescence is a fundamental property of the restorative materials when esthetically pleasant restorations are desireable to reproduce the polychromatic features and the vitality of the natural teeth.
