dc.description.abstract It tries to show that it is possible to contribute with environmental improvement and social progress, incorporated into the development of up-to-date job skills and to make use of the knowledge and competencies of the local population together with the revaluation of the institutional university education. By way of example it presents a methodological process of low cost developed by university students, which makes it possible to prove that yes it is feasible to use the sludge from sewage treatment plants, installed in the city of Guayaquil, in the elaboration of ceramic bricks. In addition, it illustrates that it can minimize the environmental and social impacts that could be produced by the final disposition of these sludge and residual muds, and get to use this hazardous waste as construction material. This project proposes a new use of the sewage sludge that is currently deposited in the sanitary landfill of Las Iguanas of the city of Guayaquil. pt_BR
