A literatura na formação do médico

Abstract

A Literatura e Medicina possuem convergências: ambas utilizam a linguagem para compreender o outro; e partem da narrativa para criar e recriar a realidade. Considerando a potencialidade de se repensar a prática clínica e formação médica atuais, este trabalho teve por objetivo elaborar um ensaio que contempla três pontos de convergência entre a Literatura e Medicina no âmbito interdisciplinar: (i) humanização; (ii) narrativa; (iii) e ética. A partir de uma revisão bibliográfica e da leitura de textos literários, mostramos que contemplar a narrativa de forma mais atenta nos permite identificar os elos entre Medicina e Literatura. Isso propicia aos médicos e estudantes de Medicina refletir sobre suas ações, princípios e percepções; e a compreender melhor as experiências singulares de cada ser humano, incluindo o processo de ressignificação da doença e do sofrimento de seus pacientes.

Literature and Medicine have convergences: they both use language to understand the other and through narrative they create and recreate reality. Considering the potentiality to rethink current clinical practice and medical training, the aim of this study was to write an essay that attempts three points of convergence between Literature and Medicine in the interdisciplinary scope: (i) humanization; (ii) narrative; (iii) and ethics. From a bibliographic review and reading of literary texts we have argued that close reading of narrative may help us identify links between Medicine and Literature. It allows doctors and medical students to reflect on their actions, principles and perceptions and to better recognize the unique experiences of each human being, including the process of reframing the disease and the suffering of their patients.
