| Abstract: |
We live in a society embedded in a patriarchal system, where women are directed to the private sphere while men are directed to the public sphere. In this context, traditionally, caring for children is women's responsability while men are in charge of family support. However, these roles are going through resignifications and the being masculine and feminine are acquiring new meanings. Therefore, in the search of gender equity, it is not possible to discuss the insertion of women into the public sphere without addressing the role of men in the private context. This study seeks to understand how working dads reconcile professional life with the roles of being a parent through a qualitative descriptive research. Data collection was made using the Life History interview method, allowing to identify influencing aspects related to parenthood and professional life in the interviewee's life. It was found that the dads have in their histories the deep desire for taking an active role in their children's lives, however, they face obstacles within organizational practices that do not allow full participation. This study notes that although individuals are moving to a plural model of masculinity, values attributed to the hegemonic masculinity still remain. |
