Conclui-se que a avaliação de telhados frios deve considerar a estabilidade da refletância ao longo do tempo e a manutenção da cobertura.; Abstract: Cool roofs, that is, roofs with high solar reflectance, are an effective passive strategy for improving the thermal and energy performance of buildings in hot climates, but their performance declines as surfaces age. In addition, the economic benefits of this technique are difficult to quantify in buildings without air conditioning. This thesis evaluates the influence of natural aging and of restoration by cleaning on the thermal, energy, and economic performance of cool roofs, and proposes a method for estimating their benefits in buildings without air conditioning. Fiber cement tiles coated with eight commercial white paints, along with an uncoated tile, were exposed for two years in Florianópolis, São Paulo, and Manaus. Thermal emittance and solar reflectance were measured in the laboratory in the new, aged, and restored conditions, after the first and second years of exposure, and the experimental solar absorptance was compared with the value estimated by the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 15575-1. The results were used as inputs for EnergyPlus simulations of a residential building, and the differences in indoor temperature were converted into an equivalent thermal load and then into an economic benefit. Emittance varied little, between 0.81 and 0.88, whereas solar reflectance was strongly affected by aging, with the largest loss, of up to 40%, occurring in the first year of exposure. Cleaning recovered a substantial share of the lost reflectance, in some cases back to the initial value, but unevenly across paints. Performance also differed among products: paint 3 gave the most favorable result and paint 8 the least favorable, which shows that a white coating does not guarantee equivalent performance. In Manaus, the equivalent economic benefit reached R$ 9.55/m² per year (about US$1.83/m² per year) for new samples, a figure that is an estimate tied to the reduction in thermal load rather than a direct saving on the electricity bill. The study concludes that cool roof assessments should account for the stability of reflectance over time and for roof maintenance.

Essa estrutura oferece à academia um modelo replicável para a integração BIM-BEM e à sociedade um caminho para a ampliar a confiabilidade e a eficiência em esquemas de certificação energética obrigatória.; Abstract: This thesis develops and validates an automated BIM-to-BEM workflow for energy efficiency assessment and buildings labeling through simulation, using the Brazilian Building Energy Labeling Program (PBE Edifica) as a demonstration reference. The research acknowledges that simulation-based methods offer higher resolution to represent the thermoenergetic behavior of buildings, yet remain limited by high model preparation costs, dependence on manual interventions, and interpretative variability in translating regulatory requirements into simulation configurations â factors that reduce traceability and hinder recurrent application. To address this problem, the work articulates information requirements, modeling guidelines, a simulation protocol, and a pipeline oriented toward verification, correction, and enrichment of exported data. The thesis is organized into four interdependent studies: an integrative review of the Brazilian scenario (28 studies), a systematic international review (106 articles), an experimental investigation on the effect of BIM modeling granularity on simulation results (62 scenarios), and a proposition of an automated BIM-to-BEM workflow via gbXML, demonstrated in an 8,100 m² university building. The national review reveals a predominance of geometric information extraction and ad hoc solutions with low standardization, while the international analysis reinforces that interoperability challenges persist even in mature contexts. The experimental investigation demonstrates that semantic granularity associated with internal conditions can dominate result variability (68% between extremes) and induce inadequate interpretations when simplifications are not controlled. Based on this evidence, the thesis implements an automated Python pipeline that applies post-export verification, correction, and standardization rules, integrates a simulation protocol aligned with regulatory requirements, and operationalizes the principle of \"as detailed as useful\" through granularity adapted to the assessment objective. The demonstration in the university building generates, in approximately 15 minutes, consistent BEM models for actual and reference conditions and calculates the energy rating. The results support that the integrated workflow structure significantly reduces manual rework, promotes methodological consistency and enhances transparency and traceability. As a scientific contribution, the thesis proposes and demonstrates an automated workflow that systematizes BIM-to-BEM conversion through the unprecedented articulation of information requirements, modeling guidelines, simulation protocol, and automated post-processing pipeline, reducing procedural variability and enabling the application of thermoenergetic simulation in regulatory labeling routines with greater agility, transparency, and scalability. This structure offers academia a replicable model for BIM-BEM integration and society as a pathway to expand reliability and efficiency in mandatory energy certification schemes.

In recent years, sustainable materials like residual ashes have gained emphasis in research due to their potential in replacing Portland cement (PC). Alkali-activated materials (AAMs) exhibit good mechanical properties, along with environmental and economic benefits. However, it is crucial to better understand the magnitudes of shrinkage that occur in both pure and mixed systems. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the shrinkage mechanisms in hybrid alkali-activated systems (AASs) based on metakaolin (MK), with the substitution of fly ash (FA) and rice husk ash (RHA). Initially, the density and mechanical strength of alkali-activated pastes (AAs) with residual ashes were investigated, varying the molar concentration of NaOH at 8/10/12/14 M for a 1:2 (NaOH) activating solution. Preliminary analyses showed good reactivity and mechanical strength of the materials with low activation; therefore, the tests were continued with 8 M for the hybrid AAs mortars, with 10% PC and 30% and 45% substitution of FA and RHA. The mortars were produced with a water/binder ratio of 0.55 and a 1:2 binder/sand ratio by volume, to analyze autogenous shrinkage for 56 days and drying shrinkage (RH=60±5%) for 63 days. The properties of the mortars in both fresh and hardened states were also evaluated, as well as the microstructure by XRD and FTIR. The results show that 30% of residual ashes reduce the effects of drying and autogenous shrinkage in hybrid systems with MK. Residual ashes improved the workability and prolonged the setting time of the mortars, in addition to providing a late increase in compressive strength, by about 40% from 1 to 28 days. However, as the amount of residual ashes increased, the mechanical strength and elastic modulus of the mortars decreased. On the other hand, ternary mixes showed better durability, with fewer free pores and lower water absorption. The ANOVA test confirmed that the precursor materials (PC, FA, and RHA) significantly influenced the results. The use of PC accelerated the reaction in the alkaline medium, forming C-S-H and (N,C)-A-S-H gels, resulting in rapid hardening and generating higher stresses in the system. Overall, ternary mixes with 30% FA and RHA help reduce the shrinkage problem in MK-based hybrid AASs. FA reduced drying shrinkage by 12.6% (T1), and RHA improved autogenous shrinkage by 31.7% (T2) compared to the REF mix. The reduction in shrinkage reaches 58% when comparing the results with the hybrid mix (T0).
