University Extension Actions Toward Integrated Management and Solid Waste Management with Environmental Education

Abstract

Since 1970 with the "New Environmentalism", the environmental issue has been a subject increasingly addressed in society due to the concern with the preservation of natural resources and reduction of the degradation made by man in the environment in which he lives. One of the biggest problems facing countries today is the generation of solid waste. Its Integrated Management refers to the proper disposal and minimization of solid waste generation through reduction in the generating source, as well as new technologies for the reuse and recycling of waste, which are fundamental for the progress of this management. With this, this Extension Project aims to promote, from Environmental Education, the reduction and reuse of waste generated. The focus on Solid Waste Management has aroused great interest among the target public, generating a good dynamics in the workshops, providing a better development of the theme, bringing contributions from their experiences to act as multipliers, by extending the practices to their homes or communities of the environment.
